It's sounding great! I hear what you mean about the vocals "fitting". I used to have that problem fairly often, too, and I don't think it's the separate tracking that's the culprit. I'm guessing it's more the difference in "closeness" between the guitar and voice. I'd bring the guitar mics closer by a third or so, and back up a tiny bit from the vocal mic.

Also, since the guitar isn't competing with a bass guitar, you don't need such a hard low cut on it. Some low end roundness would fill in the low notes, especially the open root note, which is more twang than body. Plus, it'd help in blending it in with the vocals, which do have the body. Alternately, add a cello to reinforce the bass notes. ;-)

The compression, if you're using any, is perfect and transparent. The whole mix needs more volume, but that's what mastering is for. :)

Nifty!

hey thanks for listening, I'm still experimenting and trying to see what works best right now. I know the sound I want, but I'm not sure how to get it....

I like the cello idea, I think that would fit this song nicely : )

If you can't find a cello, a tuba would work. ;-)

I've decided to sell the shure sm7b mic, and I'm planning to get a Rode NTK this week. I liked the SM7b but it's output was way too low. So we'll just have to see how the mic sounds I guess-

Bummer. Though nice about the NTK - I've heard good things about Rode mics. I might have to make you bring it over here sometime - I'm thinking about selling one or both of the 414s and getting another large-diaphragm condenser.

yea, I've heard good things about the NTK too....When I was choosing mics it was always between the NTK and sm7.

I heard that the ntk is amazing for vocals, but can be a little silibant, but I can deal with that easier than low output and hum.

I'm still waiting for the money for the sm7, so I won't buy the NTK for a little while, but I should have it by the 16th. If your'e free before or after that gig I'll bring it over and we can try it out.

It's a shame youre thinking of selling the 414's, why may I ask?
