yeah
For the most part, I like them. Some artists are better than others with EPs. They Might Be Giants was always great at creating an art form out of the EP. Lots of top-quality songs that didn't quite fit other things, but somehow fit each other perfectly. Belle & Sebastian also put out some great EPs - rather than the hit single and filler, they're all unreleased songs.

They're great for the prolific artists who write more stuff than they can release.

hate them
Okay, I'll be brave. I voted that I hate them. My best music listening time is long road trips. Six songs doesn't even get me across a county hardly. They probably make great demos, but I find that the artists that I really want to listen to have a great deal of diversity in and tons to say with their music. I'm not generally finished listening after 4-7 songs, unless it's someone terrible...

EP? Meh.
EPs still sell, but I don't think they're that professional. When I think EP I think Demo or someone who doesn't want to shell out the cash for the album. A album is a wonderful thing, but you still need to get cash and recognition.

Make a EP if you'd like, or why not just a live demo?

EP? Meh.

that is kinda the way I feel about it, although I think ep's are great for bands that want to just "try" a different style, but plan to go back to their old style on their next full album.

speaking of live stuff, I should post another live mp3....
